About the Department
Established in 1995, the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DoE&CC), Government of Tamil Nadu, is committed to environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. The Department formulates and implements policies, programmes and initiatives to address environmental challenges and safeguard the State’s natural resources.
Through its various environmental initiatives, the Department promotes ecosystem restoration, climate resilience and environmental awareness. By fostering collaboration among Government Departments, research institutions and local communities, it works towards a greener, healthier and more sustainable Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission (TNCCM):
The Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission (TNCCM) is a flagship initiative of the Government of Tamil Nadu aimed at addressing climate change through adaptation and mitigation measures. The Mission focuses on reducing climate-related risks, strengthening community and ecosystem resilience, and promoting sustainable, low-carbon development across the State.
The Mission promotes evidence-based policymaking, scientific research and coordination among Government Departments and other stakeholders to integrate climate action into development planning. The Director of the Department of Environment and Climate Change serves as the Chief Mission Director, providing leadership and coordinating climate action initiatives towards a climate-resilient and sustainable Tamil Nadu.
